24 EH is a four part musical portrait of a "day in the life..." The first part, "Early", represents waking up, the world being kind of fuzzy, doing your morning routine and getting ready for the day. "Day Groove" represents the chaos throughout the day and trying to find a groove to settle into as well as getting your plans done. "Beatrice" is a Sam Rivers composition with some original lyrics and an original three-horn arrangement. This part represents the end of the day and trying to wind down. The "Finale" recaps the whole day touching on melodic and harmonic themes featured on the previous three parts. This part represents a dream state where your mind naturally processes your life experiences while asleep. The end of the piece is a variation on the theme of "Early". I invite the listener to imagine a new appreciation of another day of being alive and zooming out his/her perspective as a tiny person on the Earth's surface and being able to see ourselves from outer space. The overall feeling I wanted to capture for this piece is a feeling of gratitude, not taking for granted each day, and a higher realization of life, learning and growing.
